RDS Functions
RDS TUNING (FM ONLY)
When an FM station which is sending RDS
data is tuned, TU940 will automatically
display the station name and the red RDS
indicator will light along with indicators for
the available RDS information: PTY
(program type), RT (radio text), CT (clock
time) and TA (traffic announcement).
Some of the indicators will light only after
the message is received completely (RT,
CT). All will go off briefly if their code is
lost, making them useful indicators for the
RDS performance of the station received.
RDS DISPLAY OPTIONS
The station name will be displayed
automatically when an RDS station is
selected. Press DISPLAY
$ to cycle
through available RDS data in the
following order:
• Station name, with some private
stations alternating with other
messages too.
• Frequency.
• Program type (PTY), see list. If no
specific program type is transmitted,
the display will read NONE.
• Radio Text (RT) message will scroll
across the display. Depending on the
quality of the RDS signal, it may take up
to 30 seconds before a text message
appears. In the meantime, TEXT will
flash in the display. If RDS reception is
poor, the display will return to the
station’s name indication after the RDS
code is lost (red RDS indicator goes off).
• Current Clock Time (CT) as transmitted
by the station. It may take up to two
minutes before the time appears. In the
meantime, TIME will flash in the display.
Note that clock accuracy is set by the
station, not TU940.
• Some RDS stations may not include all
of the above information. If the informa-
tion is not available, NO PTY, NO TEXT,
or NO TIME will be displayed
• RDS requires a strong, stable signal for
proper operation. If you see a partial
message or an RDS indicator turns on
and off, try slowly adjusting the antenna
to improve signal strength or tune to
another stronger RDS station.
