(vi) Printing
(a)
Starting printing
Detection of print paper
When data transfer completes, detection of print paper is performed. The detection of the insertion of print paper is
detected by the paper edge sensor (PH901) near the slit.
W If no print paper is inserted, the print paper indicator blinks. If paper has been inserted, printing will begin.
W If several sheets of images are being printed from DSC-F1, if print paper is not inserted within 1 minute after
data transfer completes, DSC-F1 displays a print error on the LCD and stop the continuous printing.
Descent of head
When the insertion of print paper is detected, the head UP/DOWN motor (M902) rotates, the head descends, and the
“paper suck in” mode is set.
DPP-M55 winds the print cartridge to the print start position.
W The long black line at the borderline between C (cyan) and Y (yellow) of the print cartridge is detected by the
sensor, to detect the initial position. This long black line cannot be seen if the print cartridge is not wound.
W If the print cartridge is tangled or if the sensor is faulty, the print cartridge may be advanced.
Pulling in of print paper
When the paper pull in mode is set, the PLATEN motor (M904) is rotated, and the print paper is pulled into the unit
completely.
At this time, the paper edge sensor (PH901) and the jamming detection sensor (PH950) further inside measure the
length of the print paper.
The type of print paper (normal size/postcard size) is detected from the length.
W If the print paper and print cartridge do not correspond, the print paper indicator and ribbon error indicator blink.
Replace either so that they match.
Winding of print cartridge
When the print paper is pulled inside the unit, the ribbon motor (M903) is rotated, and the print cartridge is wound
to the printing start position.
The printing start position is detected and set by detecting the long black line between cyan and yellow using the
ribbon mark sensor (PH903).
W If the print cartridge has been used up, it will not rotate. If the printing start position is not detected within a
certain time, it is determined as error, and the ink ribbon indicator will blink. At this time, the print paper pulled
in will be ejected to the front. (This print paper can be used again.)
W When the print cartridge is replaced, it will be wound up automatically, and printing will start from the last image
data read.
W If the cartridge is not replaced within 1 minute, DSC-F1 stops continuous image data transfer. The LCD of DSC-
F1 then displays a print error.
W If the print cartridge is not wound completely, due to malfunction of the ribbon motor, the same symptoms as
when the ink ribbon has been used up will occur.
Checking of head temperature
When the print cartridge is wound, the temperature of the thermal head is checked. The head temperature is checked
by the temperature sensor located near the head. When the head temperature rises, the voltage of the head temperature
detection terminal (Pin (º of IC503) also rises.
DPP-M55 does not start printing until the head temperature becomes the appropriate level. When continuos printing
is performed, and the temperature sensor is above 40°C, the FAN motor (M901) is rotated, the air outside the unit is
sucked into the upper panel to lower the head temperature.
After printing, the FAN motor may continue rotating, but this is not a fault.
W Be careful not to attach the FAN motor reversed.
