VERSION 1C
MARCH 2002
The flash memory within the AR-PB2 Printer Board is broken down in to two sections.
The first section replaces the Boot EPROM’s that can be found on other boards such as
the AR5132’s BD14/15 printer board. The Boot flash memory is around 598kb in size and
takes around 20 seconds to download to the AR-PB2 Printer Board. This data is
responsible for booting up the Printer Board and displaying its menu options.

NOTE
If you are upgrading from ARPB2(+) to ARPB2A firmware, you must ensure that
the boot firmware is Downloaded before the Program/Font firmware and the upgrade must
be done on an “Non” Cougar 2000 model (an F9 error code will occur if attempted on a
Cougar 2000).
If you are upgrading a PB2A with a later version of PB2A firmware, this can be executed on
any Cougar model.
Obtain the Updated Printer Board Flash Memory Firmware from either the Sharp Technical
Web Site or from the “Sharp Eye” CD pack (Disc 1). This will be a “PB2_XXX.hex” file for the
Program section of flash memory or a “BOOTxxx.hex” file for the BOOT section.
Before upgrading the firmware, obtain a current printer configuration page.
