DIagnostics Specifications
4 – 6
(7) Controller check test
The diag command built in the hard disk is executed to check the hard
disk controller.
[Write mode test]
When the following test is executed, the HDD data will be destroyed.
(8) Smart ON/OFF
Used to select ON/OFF of the smart function of the hard disk.
(9) Smart value display
This function is used to display the list of the values saved in the hard
disk and backed up them to the diag media. This function is valid only
when the smart function is ON.
(10) Seek & write/read-verify test
[Test condition setting]
Similar to the above (3).
[Test contents]
The worst pattern data are written for every sector into the LBA range
set in the above sequentially.
Then read/verify check is executed for every track.
The read/verify check is executed only once.
(1 Pass text)
When writing data, write different data from those stored previously.
Before executing write/read, seek is made to the previous LBA or the
next LBA of the target LBA.
(Head movement)
When reading an LBA (N), the head moves as follows. (The head arm
oscillates back and forth.)
In the direction of 0
3
 LBA
(Worst pattern data)
There are two types of word data: B6DBh, and 6DB6h.
When an error occurs during the above test, retry is repeated by the set
number of retry. If an error still occurs after completion of retry by the
set number of retry, error logging is made to the DRAM.
When "Error stop" is set in the test condition setting, if an error occurs
during the above test, the error display is interrupted. To resume the
test, press [SPACE] key.
When "Continue" is set, if an error occurs, the operation is not inter-
rupted though the error display is made.
When "1 Pass" is set, a series of tests is executed only once.
(11) Write/read-verify test
[Test condition setting]
Similar to the above (9).
[Test contents]
The worst pattern data are written for every sector into the LBA range
set in the above sequentially.
Then read/verify check is executed for every track.
The read/verify check is executed only once.
(1 Pass text)
When writing data, write different data from those stored previously.
(Worst pattern data)
There are two types of word data: B6DBh, and 6B6Gh.
When an error occurs during the above test, retry is repeated by the set
number of retry. If an error still occurs after completion of retry by the
set n umber of retry, error logging is made to the DRAM.
(12) Target sector write/read-verify test
(Test condition setting)
Similar to the above (5).
[Test contents]
The write/read/verify test is executed for the sector number in the LBA
range set in the above.
When the write/read test in the set range is completed, it is considered as 1 Pass.
When an error occurs during the above test, retry is repeated by the set
number of retry. If an error still occurs after completion of retry by the
set n umber of retry, error logging is made to the DRAM.
(13) HD patch test (Utility)
[Test condition setting]
Similar to the above (6). However, the LBA range is set to 000 - Final LBA.
[Test contents]
The sectors set in the above are displayed in the unit of 256 byte.
Hex data and ASCII data are displayed.
By key operations, the following 256 byte data or the previous 256 byte
data can be sequentially displayed.
After converting data on the display, it is written into the selected set
position.
(14) Error table display (Diag)
In case of an error in the previous tests (1) ~ (12), error information is
saved in the DRAM. This function is used to display the information.
If there is no information, OK or NO ERROR is displayed.
(15) Other supplementary note
Error information if recorded in the sequence of occurrence up to 44
items. No further error information is recorded.
In the direction of 0 a Final LBA, write is executed.
In the direction of 0 a Final LBA, read/verify check is executed.
In the direction of 0 a Final LBA, write is executed.
In the direction of 0 a Final LBA, read/verify check is executed.
