Australian National Differences according to CB Bulletin No. CB Bulletin No. 109A, December 2005  

 

For parts, which withstand the glow-wire test but 
produce a flame, other parts above the 
connection within the envelope of a vertical 
cylinder having a diameter of 20 mm and a height 
of 50 mm shall be subjected to the needle-flame 
test. However, parts shielded by a barrier which 
meets the needle-flame test shall not be tested. 

The needle-flame test shall be made in 
accordance with AS/NZS 4695.2.2 with the 
following modifications:

Replace with: 

The duration of application of the test flame shall 
be 30 s ± 1 s. 
 

8 Test procedure 

8.2 Modification: 

Replace the first sentence with: 

The specimen shall be arranged so that the flame 
can be applied to a vertical or horizontal edge as 
shown in the examples of figure 1. 

8.4 Modification: 

The first paragraph does not apply. 

Addition: 

If possible, the flame shall be applied at least 
10 mm from a corner. 

8.5 Replacement: 

The test shall be made on one specimen. If the 
specimen does not withstand the test, the test 
may be repeated on two further specimens, both 
of which shall then withstand the test. 
 

10 Evaluation of test results 

Replace with: 

The duration of burning (t

) shall not exceed 30 s. 

However, for printed circuit boards, it shall not 
exceed 15 s. 

The needle-flame test shall not be carried out on 
parts of material classified as V-0 or V-1 
according to IEC 60695-11-10, provided that the 
sample tested was not thicker than the relevant 
part.
