4) The system asks you to enter the serial number, year and month.
Enter them in the following way.
5) After the above three items are entered, the screen asks you to confirm
the data you entered.  Press Y if there is no mistake and press N if
there is any mistake.
(If N is pressed, the program will terminate without doing anything.) 
6) After writing the above data in U16, enter V171ME. The contents of
data written in U16 are displayed on screen to allow you to check if
data have been correctly written.

You can confirm the contents by carrying out step 6) after finish-
ing steps 1) and 2).

Supplementary explanation
1.
Precautions concerning writing EDID
1
When writing is executed, "_" appears followed by "Write Start".  If writ-
ing is done correctly, "Write OK" appears on screen and then verifica-
tion begins.  When verification starts, "Verify Start" appears followed by
"_". When writing is finished, "Verify OK" appears on screen.

If writing went wrong, ######### WRITE ERROR #############
appears on screen, blinking in red.
If there is the message
[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ Troubleshooting ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
(1) If the screen is not displayed properly,
showing a lot of garbled characters: This program assumes that it is 
used on MS-DOS incorporating ANSI.SYS.
ANSI.SYS is a standard program supplied with MS-DOS and 
Windows95/98.
If the your operating system does not have ANSI.SYS, add the fol-
lowing line in the CONFIG.SYS file.
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\ANSI.SYS
The above path of ANSI.SYS is a standard path for Windows95. 
In the case of MS-DOS, the standard path of ANSI.SYS is 
C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS
Check your operating system and set the correct path.
(2) The screen froze, showing no response.

The tool is turned on, if it needs power supply.
2.
The parallel port is usable and its I/O address is 0378h.
3.
The cable is properly connected.
Note: How to check parallel port setting on Windows
1.
Open System on Control Panel.
2.
Open Device Manager and select the Display type.
(In the case of Windows2000 and XP, select the Hardware tag
and press the Device Manager button.)  
3.
Click the "+" mark at the left of "Port (COM)/LPT)" and check
that there is "Printer Port (LPT1)".
("ECP Printer Port (LPT1)" or the like in the box. )
4.
Open the Properties of Printer Port (LPT1), and then open the
Resource tag.
5.
Check that the setting of "I/O Range" is 0378-037F.
(3) The screen displays no "." or only one ".", showing ERR: Write Error.
Check that the cable is properly connected.
