These positions can have any key assigened to them at any time.
No key is fixed to any position, for example, on conventional cash
registers once the numeric are assigned, they can not be re positioned,
on these models they can.
The ERA880 is a touch screen type keyboard. and there are shared
areas for keys, depending on where you are in the course of the
transaction.
For example, there are 10 key positions where you would assign
servers or keys to be used before a transaction is started, once a
transaction has been started these same positions are known as trading
function keys, and there are 3 layers of trading keys giving a total of 30
key positions.
When the subtotal key is pressed these same key positions will change
to the payment type keys.
There are 84 trading keys, these will be displayed in a large size on the
right hand side of the screen, these would normally be used for list keys
or pre-sets, but any other key can be assigned.
So on the 850 machine the key area’s are fixed just like on some other
models, however on the 880 the key area’s will change to display
different keys, depending upon where you are in the transaction.
If this sound complicated please be assured that once you have seen
the 880  or the UP5700 keyboard it will not be.
Once you have made the choice of keyboard you want to program  a
new screen will be displayed.
There are four sub headers, they are:-
key
type
value
and description
under the key header is a number between 1 and 156 and these
represent the 156 key positions on the keyboard, for example on the
850 the key positions on the top row from left to right are locations 1 to
13 the next row down are key positions 14 to 26  and so on.
