Recording TV programs using the DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial) (not available on SLV-LX500)

Tips
• To cancel a Dial Timer setting, press 

x STOP (parada) on the VCR while you are making the 

setting.

• The program is recorded in the current tape speed.  To change the tape speed, press SP/EP 

before you complete the setting in step 9 (page 31).

• To  check, change, or cancel the program setting, see “Checking/changing/canceling timer 

settings” on page 40.

Notes
• If eight programs have already been set using the manual timer setting, “FULL” appears in 

the display window for about five seconds.

• The  TIMER (temporizador)

 

indicator flashes in the display window when you complete the 

setting in step 9 on page 31 with no tape inserted.

• When the setting time is incorrect, “Err” appears in the display window in step 9.  Set the 

timer again from step 1.

• You cannot set the tape speed to “AUTO” using the DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial).  To 

select “AUTO,” set the “VEL” position in “Prog./Verif.”

The DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial) function has a Demonstration Mode that 
allows the user, such as a salesperson, to enter more than eight examples of timer 
settings when demonstrating the use of the DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial).  It 
cancels the FULL notice which appears if eight programs have already been set.  Do 
not use the Demonstration Mode for making timer recordings.  Doing so may cause 
the settings to be inaccurate.

Press 

X PAUSE (pausa) on the VCR while turning the DIAL TIMER (temporizador 

dial).  “DEMO” appears in the display window for a few seconds.

Turn the power off and unplug the AC power cord.  Although the Demonstration 
Mode is canceled, the timer settings entered while using the Demonstration Mode 
will remain.  Be sure to manually cancel the timer settings before you use the Dial 
Timer or any other timer method after reconnecting the AC power cord (page 40). 

Turn DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial) to set the day.

Press DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial). 
The MONTH (mes) indicator and “1” appear in the display window.

Turn and press DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial) to set the month and then the 
year. 
After you set the year, “AM” and “12:– –” appear alternately in the display 
window.

Turn and press DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial) to set the hour and minute.

When you have finished setting the time, press DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial) 
to start the clock.

You can preset up to eight programs together 
with the DIAL TIMER (temporizador dial)* 
at one time.

• Check that the VCR clock is set to the 

correct time.

• Turn on the VCR and the TV and set it to 

the video channel.  When using a cable 
box, turn it on.

• Insert a tape with its safety tab in place.  

Make sure the tape is longer than the total 
recording time.

*not available on SLV-LX500.

To stop the VCR while recording, press 

x STOP (parada).

In step 4 above, press 

m to select the recording pattern.  Each time you press m, the 

indication changes as shown below.  Press 

M to change the indication in reverse 

order.

Set the channel number, start and stop time,

To record from a source connected to the LINE IN 1 (entrada de línea 1) or 
LINE-2 IN (entrada de línea 2) jacks, press INPUT SELECT (selección de 
entrada) or CH (canal) +/– to display “L1” or “L2” in the “CH (canal)” 
position.

To record the same program every day or the same day every week, press 

m  

while the date is flashing.  For details, see “Daily/weekly recording” below.

To use the Auto Tape Speed function, press 

m to display “AUTO” in the 

“VEL” position.  For details, see “To use the Auto Tape Speed function” on 
page 35.

Press OK (aceptación) to confirm the setting.

To enter another setting, press 

M/m to select the next row and repeat step 4.

Press TIMER (temporizador) to exit the menu.

Press 

?/1 to turn off the VCR.

The TIMER (temporizador) indicator appears in the display window and the 
VCR stands by for recording.  When using a cable box, leave it on.

Recording TV programs using the timer

To use the VCR before a timer recording begins, just press 

?/1.  The TIMER 

(temporizador) indicator disappears from the display window and the VCR switches 
on.  Remember to press 

?/1 to reset the VCR to the timer recording standby mode 

after using the VCR.

You can also do the following tasks while the VCR is recording:

• Reset the counter (page 25).

• Display tape information on the TV screen (page 27).

• Check the timer settings (page 40).

• Watch another TV program (page 28).

When you are recording a program in the SP mode and the remaining tape becomes 
shorter than the recording time, the tape speed is automatically changed to the EP 
mode.  Note that some noise will appear on the picture when the tape speed is 
changed.  If you want to keep the tape speed, select SP.  To operate this function, set 
“Selc. de cinta” in the OPCIONES AVANZADAS menu correctly (page 46).

Tips
• To  set  the channel, you can also use the CH (canal) +/– or number buttons.

• To  show  the “Prog./Verif.,” you can use the MENU button.  Press MENU, press 

M

m

• If the   indicator appears, the timer settings overlap.  To check, change or cancel the program 

setting, see “Checking/changing/canceling timer settings” on page 40.
