WHAT IS USER CONTROL?
User Control is the process of verifying the identity of a user requesting to log onto
the MFD (multifunction device). User authentication may be performed locally with the
stand-alone machine or via a network server to allow specific users access.
There are three methods of user authentication:

There are three methods of user authentication:
(i) User Number
– Users enter a 5 to 8 digit P.I.N number to gain
access to use the machine. This method allows registered
users to authenticate locally at the MFD only.

(ii) Username and Password
– Users enter a username and
password. Users login locally (stand alone) to the MFD or via

Methods (ii) and (iii) use Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to
authenticate users to a third party network server to have access to the MFD. All
users registered on the server have the ability to logon using direct entry.

What is an “Authority Group”?
An Authority Group gives a user the authority to print, copy, scan, fax etc and make
use of the various functions and features of the MFD. Authority may also be assigned
to access, view, and modify settings within the MFD (system settings) as well as
backup data and print out program lists. An authority group must be assigned to each
user when registering the users name and details. There are 20 authority groups in
total (5 predefined and 15 programmable) that may be assigned to any user account
on the MFD. The 5
predefined authority groups being “Admin”, “System Administrator
Authority”, “User”, “Guest”, “Colour Prohibited Authority”, “Scanner Prohibited
