3. Enjoying Surround Sound
(1) Using only the front speakers ... User’s Manual
P.26
The subwoofer does not output sound in the 2ch STEREO setting.
To have the subwoofer output audio, select AUTO in the A.F.D. mode, and then select CREATE
with the A.F.D. 2CH SW in the SURR SET UP menu (User’s Manual
P.40
).
(2) Enjoy higher fidelity sound
(i) A.F.D (AUTO FORMAT DIRECT) ... User’s Manual
P.26
If the A.F.D. mode is set to AUTO, sound that is true to its original sound is played back without
the addition of any effects such as an echo.
(ii) Enjoying stereo sound in multi channel audio ... User’s Manual
P.27
Since DTS Neo:6 does not work on DTS 2ch audio, 2ch playback is established.
When no LFE signal is present, subwoofer audio is generated and output. However, it may not be
generated in the Neo:6 Cinema mode or Neo:6 Music mode depending on the speaker setting.
(Reference) Checking the LFE signal
You can determine if the LFE signal (for the subwoofer) is included by checking whether or not
the number of channels indicated on the DVD package shows “.1”. The LFE signal is included if the
number of channels is indicated as “5.1”, but not if the package shows “2.0” or “5.0”.
(3) Selecting a sound field
(i) Sound field for movies ... User’s Manual
P.27
Four types of DCS (digital cinema sound) are available to create the same effect as if you were
sitting in a movie theater. You can use them in combination with other digital signal process effects
(e.g., sound field for music, NIGHT mode).
To output 2ch audio input in a sound field for music from multiple channels, the signal is
processed using Dolby Prologic.
(ii) Format of DVD software ... User’s Manual
P.28
You can identify the encode format of DVD software from the symbol on its package. If no
encode format is displayed in the display window of the unit, check the package to determine
whether or not that encode format exists.
