SAFETY  CHECK-OUT
After correcting the original service problem, perform the follow-
ing safety check before releasing the set to the customer:
Check the antenna terminals, metal trim, “metallized” knobs, 
screws, and all other exposed metal parts for AC leakage.
Check leakage as described below.
LEAKAGE  TEST
The AC leakage from any exposed metal part to earth ground and 
from all exposed metal parts to any exposed metal part having a 
return to chassis, must not exceed 0.5 mA (500 microamperes.). 
Leakage current can be measured by any one of three methods.
1.  A commercial leakage tester, such as the Simpson 229 or RCA 
WT-540A. Follow the manufacturers’ instructions to use these 
instruments.
2.  A battery-operated AC milliammeter. The Data Precision 245 
digital multimeter is suitable for this job.
3.  Measuring the voltage drop across a resistor by means of a 
VOM or battery-operated AC voltmeter. The “limit” indication 
is 0.75 V, so analog meters must have an accurate low-voltage 
scale. The Simpson 250 and Sanwa SH-63Trd are examples 
of a passive VOM that is suitable. Nearly all battery operated 
digital multimeters that have a 2 V AC range are suitable. (See 
Fig. A)

Never reuse a disconnected chip component.
• 
Notice that the minus side of a tantalum capacitor may be dam-
aged by heat.

SECTION  1
SERVICING  NOTES
UNLEADED  SOLDER
Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the lead-
free mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead.
(Caution:  Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with 
the lead free mark due to their particular size)
 : LEAD  FREE  MARK
Unleaded solder has the following characteristics.
•  Unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 °C higher 
than ordinary solder.
 
Ordinary soldering irons can be used but the iron tip has to be 
applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer time.
 
Soldering irons using a temperature regulator should be set to 
about 350 °C.
Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if 
the heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful!
• Strong 
viscosity
 
Unleaded solder is more viscous (sticky, less prone to fl ow) 
than ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder bridges 
occur such as on IC pins, etc.
•  Usable with ordinary solder
 
It is best to use only unleaded solder but unleaded solder may 
also be added to ordinary solder.
NOTE  OF  REPLACING  THE  WIRELESS  LAN  MODULE 
When replacing the wireless LAN module (Ref. No. MOD1), 
MAC address is changed. Print the following explanation, cut it, 
and hand over it to the customer with the unit, when returning the 
set that the repair is completed to the customer.
MAC address of this unit has been changed by this repair. The 
customer who uses the MAC address fi ltering function of con-
nected access point equipment please set it again. MAC address 
is possible to confi rm it on the “Sony Network Device Setting” 
screen. Please refer to “Others” on the operating instructions for 
details.
PROCESSING  OF  REPLACING  THE  WIRELESS  LAN  
MODULE
When replacing the wireless LAN module (Ref. No. MOD1), peel 
the device ID label stuck on the bottom side of a main unit, and 
stick on the new device ID label (refer to the following fi gure) 
enclosed with the new wireless LAN module (Ref. No. MOD1).
CHECKING  FOR  NETWORK  OPERATIONS
Equipment Used:
PC (WINDOWS XP/Vista/7)
Router (802.11b/g)
Two LAN cables (Category 5 compliant, normal or shield type)

Checking Procedures:
1.  Checking Audio Output (Connection from PC to router not re-
quired)
 
Input sound from other source to the [AUDIO IN] jack of the 
unit and check the sound from the unit’s speaker.

Connect between PC and the SA-NS510 using a LAN cable. 
(The SA-NS510’s [LINK] LED illuminates amber)
 
When the OS is WINDOWS Vista/7, connect the device and 
make sure that the device is detected and displayed.
 
When the OS is WINDOWS XP, enable “UPnP Service” and 
then connect the device. Make sure that the device is pop-up 
displayed on the PC.

Note: Refer to “ABOUT THE SETTING METHOD OF WIRELESS 
LAN” on page 4 for checking the wireless connection.
 
The [LINK] LED lights up in green when the wireless connec-
tion is made.
CAUTION
When you check wireless connection during servicing, the connection 
setup will be changed. At the time of returning the unit to the customer 
after servicing, you should inform that wireless connection setup is to be 
made again when using the unit in wires connection.
Error Display:

ABOUT  THE  SETTING  METHOD  OF  WIRELESS  LAN
When setting the wireless LAN by operation check, set the wire-
less LAN by one of the following methods
Method 1: Setting the Wireless LAN by Wired Network
This method can set the wireless LAN without using attached CD-
ROM.
Note 1: 
PC must be connected to the wireless LAN router/access 
point in advance.
 
    Write down important information such as the SSID and 
security method, etc. of wireless LAN router/access point
.
Procedure:
1.  Check whether PC and wireless LAN router/access point are 
turned on.
2.  Connect the SA-NS510 and the wireless LAN router/access 
point using a LAN cable.

3.  Turn the SA-NS510 on.
4. Click 
“My Network” or “Network” t “SA-NS510”.
 The 
“Sony Network Device Setting” screen appears.
 Note 
2: Install the UPnP service in advance if using Windows XP.
 
     
Check the set-up of the fi rewall of the security software if 
you cannot fi nd “SA-NS510” or the browser does not open 
even if you double-click “SA-NS510” on screen of PC.
 
     
Restart the PC if you cannot fi nd “SA-NS510”.
5.  Select the desired language when the “Language Setup” screen 
appears.
6.  Select “Network Settings” from the menu.
7.  Enter the SSID of access point, then select the security method.
 Note 
3: Enter Security key (WEP/WPA key, etc.) if you selected any-
thing other than “No Security” as a security method.
8. Click 
“Apply”
.
9. Click “OK” when the confi rmation screen of the pop-up win-
dow appears.
10. Disconnect the SA-NS510 and the wireless LAN router/access 
point following the on-screen instructions.
 
SA-NS510 restarts automatically, then the [LINK] LED lights 
up in green when the wireless LAN connection is made.
Method 2: Setting the Wireless LAN by CD-ROM (“NS 
Setup”)
This method can set the wireless LAN with the CD-ROM which 
is attached.
Note 4: It is necessary for the CD-ROM (“NS Setup”) to use a PC of with 
built-in wireless LAN.
 
    Have the wireless network name (SSID) and security key (if ap-
plicable) available for reference.
Procedure:
1.  Connect the AC adaptor to SA-NS510.
 
Check that the [
?/1
] LED changes from fl ashing in green to lit 
in green.
2.  Load the CD-ROM (“NS Setup”) into the CD-ROM drive of 
PC.
 
If the program does not start automatically, double-click on 
“NS_Setup.exe” on the CD-ROM.
3.  Perform setup, following step 1 to 4 of the on-screen instruc-
tions.
 
When setup is completed, press the “Play test sound” button to 
confi rm operation of the speaker by playing the test sound.
 
(The [LINK] LED lights up in green when the wireless LAN 
connection is made)
