NOTES  ON  CHIP  COMPONENT  REPLACEMENT
•  Never reuse a disconnected chip component.
•  Notice that the minus side of a tantalum capacitor may be dam-
aged by heat.
SAFETY  CHECK-OUT
After correcting the original service problem, perform the follow-
ing safety check before releasing the set to the customer:
Check the antenna terminals, metal trim, “metallized” knobs, 
screws, and all other exposed metal parts for AC leakage.
Check leakage as described below.
LEAKAGE  TEST
The AC leakage from any exposed metal part to earth ground and 
from all exposed metal parts to any exposed metal part having a 
return to chassis, must not exceed 0.5 mA (500 microamperes.). 
Leakage current can be measured by any one of three methods.
1.  A commercial leakage tester, such as the Simpson 229 or RCA 
WT-540A. Follow the manufacturers’ instructions to use these 
instruments.
2.  A battery-operated AC milliammeter. The Data Precision 245 
digital multimeter is suitable for this job.
3.  Measuring the voltage drop across a resistor by means of a 
VOM or battery-operated AC voltmeter. The “limit” indication 
is 0.75 V, so analog meters must have an accurate low-voltage 
scale. The Simpson 250 and Sanwa SH-63Trd are examples 
of a passive VOM that is suitable. Nearly all battery operated 
digital multimeters that have a 2 V AC range are suitable. (See 
Fig. A)

SECTION  1
SERVICING  NOTES
UNLEADED  SOLDER
Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the lead-
free mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead.
(Caution:  Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with 
the lead free mark due to their particular size)
 : LEAD  FREE  MARK
Unleaded solder has the following characteristics.
•  Unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 °C higher 
than ordinary solder.
 
Ordinary soldering irons can be used but the iron tip has to be 
applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer time.
 
Soldering irons using a temperature regulator should be set to 
about 350 °C.
Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if 
the heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful!
• Strong 
viscosity
 
Unleaded solder is more viscous (sticky, less prone to fl ow) 
than ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder bridges 
occur such as on IC pins, etc.
•  Usable with ordinary solder
 
It is best to use only unleaded solder but unleaded solder may 
also be added to ordinary solder.
NOTE  OF  REPLACING  THE  IC401  ON  THE  MAIN  
BOARD
IC401 on the MAIN board cannot exchange with single. When this 
part is damaged, exchange the entire mounted board.

SECTION  2
TEST  MODE
COLD  RESET
Procedure:
1.  Press the [
?/1
] button to turn the power on.
2.  Press the three buttons [
x
], [
X
] and [
?/1
] simultaneously.
3.  The message “RESET” appears on the liquid crystal display, 
then turn the power off.
PANEL  TEST  MODE
Procedure:
1.  Press the [
?/1
] button to turn the power on.
2.  Press the three buttons [DISPLAY], [
N
] and [S-AIR CH –] 
simultaneously.
3.  When the panel test mode is activated, all segments of the liq-
uid crystal display are lighted up.
4.  In the state of step 3, press the [DISPLAY] button, and the 
model name and destination are displayed on the liquid crystal 
display. When the [PRESET +] button is pressed, the date and 
the microcomputer version are displayed on the liquid crystal 
display.
5.  In the state of step 3, press the [PRESET –] button, and “KEY 
0” is displayed on the liquid crystal display.
  “KEY 0” value increases whenever a button on the set is 
pressed. However, once a button has been pressed, it is no lon-
ger taken into account.
 
All buttons on the set is pressed, “OK” and “KEY 10” are al-
ternately displayed on the liquid crystal display.
6.  To release from this mode, press the three buttons [DISPLAY], 
[
N
] and [S-AIR CH –] simultaneously.
REMOTE  DISABLE  MODE
Procedure:
1.  In the standby state, while pressing the [S-AIR CH +] button, 
press the [
?/1
] button to turn the power on.
2.  The message “REMOTE ON” or “REMOTE OFF” appears 
on the liquid crystal display, and on/off of the remote control 
changes.
S-AIR  TEST  MODE
Procedure:
1.  Press the [
?/1
] button to turn the power on.
2.  While pressing the [S-AIR CH +] and [S-AIR CH –] buttons, 
press the [PRESET +] button.
3.  The message “I2C” appears on the liquid crystal display and 
enter the S-AIR test mode.
4.  Press the [
N
] button to select the “I2C”, and press the [
N
button.
 
The message “OK” or “NG” appears on the liquid crystal dis-
play and the connection of the I2C line between DARR and 
micro controller can be confi rmed.
 
“OK” : Connection OK.
 
“NG” : Connection NG.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
5.  Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “QUALITY”, and 
press the [
N
] button.
 
The quality of the communication is displayed on the liquid 
crystal display.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
6.  Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “POWER”, and 
press the [
N
] button.
 
The output power is displayed on the liquid crystal display. In 
this state, whenever the [PRESET +] and [PRESET –] buttons 
are pressed, the output power can be changed.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
7.  Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “VER.CHECK”, 
and press the [
N
] button.
 
The microcomputer version last updated date of the S-AIR de-
vice connected with this set is displayed on the liquid crystal 
display.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
8.  Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “DARR”, and press 
the [
N
] button.
 
The settings of DARR are displayed on the liquid crystal dis-
play. Whenever the [PRESET +] and [PRESET –] buttons are 
pressed, the displayed setting of DARR can be changed.
 
“CO XXXX”  : Connect code display.
 
“ADR XX” 
: Address display.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
9.  Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “ANT SET”, and 
press the [
N
] button.
 
The setting of antenna transceiving is displayed on the liquid 
crystal display. Whenever the [PRESET +] and [PRESET –] 
buttons are pressed, the setting of antenna transceiving can be 
changed.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
10. Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “ANT MON”, and 
press the [
N
] button.
 
The antenna under use is displayed on the liquid crystal dis-
play.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
11. Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “REC”, and press 
the [
N
] button.
 
Whether the audio source that has been reproduced can be re-
corded is displayed on the liquid crystal display.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
12. Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “DEMO”, and press 
the [
N
] button.
 
The message “ON” or “OFF” appears on the liquid crystal dis-
play. Whenever the [PRESET +] and [PRESET –] buttons are 
pressed, the on/off can be changed.
 
“ON”  : Demo mode (Mode for demonstration at shops).
 
“OFF”  : Normal mode.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
13. Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “RF CHG”, and 
press the [
N
] button.
 
The message “ON” or “OFF” appears on the liquid crystal dis-
play. Whenever the [PRESET +] and [PRESET –] buttons are 
pressed, the on/off can be changed.
 
“ON”  : The RF CHG function of DARR is on.
 
“OFF”  : The RF CHG function of DARR is off.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
14. Press the [PRESET +] button to select the “NACK SEND”, 
and press the [
N
] button.
 
The message “ON” or “OFF” appears on the liquid crystal dis-
play. Whenever the [PRESET +] and [PRESET –] buttons are 
pressed, the on/off can be changed.
 
“ON”  : NACK is transmitted at the Bad_Sync.
 
“OFF”  : NACK is not transmitted at the Bad_Sync.
 
Press the [
N
] button, return to item selection screen.
15. To release from this mode, press the [
?/1
] button. The setting 
is maintained until turning off power.
