2. Symptom
Motor locking due to overload during shifting of the lens.
3. Cause
(1) When moving the lens upward, it’s weight is also pushing the motor shaft downward as
shown in Fig-1.
(2) When the lens is moved downward the load causes pulling out of the motor shaft as
shown in Fig-2.
(3) Because of mechanism bearing on the motor as in case (2) above, the motor does not
run or sometimes locks as the motor shaft gets pulled out.

5. Countermeasure
Add the stopper onto the motor assembly to prevent the in-out shaft movement creating
excessive load.

Modification Procedure:
(1) Disconnect the lead for the motor.
(2) Remove the 2 screws fixing the motor (See the Fig-4)
(3) Remove the motor with the angle.

(4) Replace the motor with improved motor assembly. Before doing so, apply grease to the
gear.
(5) Slide the angle to the end (in arrow’s direction), then slide it again in reverse by 0.2 to
0.3 mm. (See Fig-4)
(6) Tighten the screws.
(7) Connect the lead and form it with tape.
(8) Attach the projection lens and try to shift it, making sure there is no failure.
(9) If not shifting smoothly, adjust the angle following step (5) above.
