There are four main steps to configuring a PAS UNIX print 
server on your network:

• copying files to the UNIX server and configuring the SM 

print server components

• configuring printer connections using SMEditDB
• registering printers in the PAS database using System Man-

ager

• adding the appropriate logical printer definitions to net-

work workstations

You can run the installation as either a manual process, or as 
an automated script. The following sections detail the auto-
mated process for Solaris and Linux. If you want to run the 
installation manually, see “UNIX installation script” on page 29 
for more details.

Note: PAS supports only AIX 4.3.

1. Copy the installation package (pas-unix-2.5.2-aix.bff) to a 

temporary location on the system, such as the /tmp 
directory.

2. Install the package using the AIX package installer. 

Assuming that you copied the package to /tmp, the 
appropriate command would be:

installp -d /tmp/pas-unix-2.5.2-aix.bff

3. Run /usr/local/sm/sm_config.sh and answer the prompts as 

required, including the name of the accounting server.
