1. Model Name:
MX-FNX1
2. Symptom:
During movement of the stapling unit in the inner finisher, the harness at the corner of the
stapling unit that connects the stapling unit with the control PWB is bent at 90 (right angle).
(See the photograph below.)
Frequent repetition of this motion in low-temperature environment causes the harness to
break, resulting in indication of a trouble code (e.g. F1-10).

3.Description:
In order to prevent harness break, we conducted the following three changes:
To identify implementation of the action, a green or blue sticker is attached to the front lock
cover. (For details, see the separate sheet.)

1. The firmware is changed so as to reduce the number of motions of the stapling unit that
causes the harness to be bent.
The firmware is online under “MX-FNX1” in “Drivers/Updates”, so please download it from

Description
1. The standby position is changed to a position at 14.2 mm distance from the home position
(front stapling position beside letter).
2. Conventionally, the stapling unit moves even in non-stapling mode. However, it is changed to
move in stapling mode only.
If the stapling unit has stopped at the home position, the stapling unit will move to the standby
position (as changed in action No.1) at start of a job, and stops at the standby position even in
non-stapling mode. If the stapling unit is placed at the standby position, it will not move.

3. In each stapling mode, motion of the stapling unit is changed as follows:
(Before this change, the stapling unit moves to the center position in any mode, every time a
stapling job is executed.)
1) Back stapling: At start of a job, the stapling unit moves to the stapling position from the
standby position, after positioning at the home position. The unit executes
stapling operation while staying at the stapling position, until a job is
completed.

completed.
2) Front stapling: The stapling unit stays at the stapling position until a job is completed, in the
same manner as back stapling.
However, only in A3 and A4 size landscape modes, the unit moves between
the standby position and the stapling position every time a stapling job is
executed.

3) Double stapling: At start of a job, the stapling unit moves to the standby position, after
positioning at the home position.
After the first stapling is executed, the unit stands by at the center position.

Note) With upgrading of the firmware version, the parts code of the control PWB is changed.
However, if the firmware version of the control PWB before change is upgraded, control
PWB replacement is not required.
PWB replacement is not required.
2. Aiming for harness durability improvement, the harness material is changed to enhance
the harness sheath flexibility.
To differentiate the new harness from the old one, the color of the tie band attached to the
harness is changed from “white” to “black”.

3. To change the harness routing, a harness guide is added to the stapling unit, so that the
harness bend is relieved.

- How to identify implementation of the harness break preventive action
(1) For an inner finisher that has undergone all actions of Nos. 1, 2 and 3 above, a green
sticker is added at the top left of the front lock cover inside the finisher front cover.
(See the photograph below.)
(See the photograph below.)
(2) For an inner finisher that has undergone action No. 1 (firmware change) only, a blue
sticker is added to the top left of the front lock cover inside the finisher front cover.
(See the photograph below.)
(See the photograph below.)
4. For the field:
- For an inner finisher yet to be used, the firmware change is recommended.
- For an inner finisher that has been used but not suffered harness break yet, the firmware
change is recommended.
- For an inner finisher that has been used and already suffered harness break, all actions of
Nos. 1, 2 and 3 are recommended.
