MX-FN19  OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION  6 – 18
D. Stapling operation
Outline
The stapler unit staples a stack of as many sheets as specified.
The stapling position differs according to the selected staple mode
and paper size.
The stapler unit is checked by the stapler shift home position sen-
sor (FSTHPD) to find out whether it is at the home position.
The stapler unit is equipped with the stapler alignment interference
sensor (FSJOGD). While the stapler alignment interference sensor
(FSJOGD) is on, running of the staple motor (FFSM) is prohibited.
This is intended for prevention of breakage of the stopper caused
by stapling in the stopper due to out-of-step.
When starting operation after power-on, the finisher controller PCB
drives the stapler shift motor (FSM) to return the stapler unit to the
home position. If the stapler unit is already at the home position, it
is kept as it is in wait.
Stapling First Sheet
The finisher controller PCB moves the stapler depending on the
predetermined stapling position. The finisher controller PCB stops
the delivery motor (FAM) as soon as the trailing edge of the first
sheet has moved past the No.1 feed roller. Then, it rotates the
delivery motor reverse to drive the delivery roller and the return
roller, and paper is delivered to the stapling tray. The presence of
paper on the stapling tray is detected by the stapling tray sensor
(FSTPD). After paper is delivered to the stapling tray, the swing
motor (FSWM) runs to raise the stapling tray sensor (FSTPD).
When the swing guide home position sensor (FSWHPD) detects
the raise of the swing guide, the swing motor is stopped, and the
swing guide is held at the raised position.
After the stapling tray sensor detects the presence of paper, the
alignment motor runs to align paper.
The alignment motors (FFJM/FRJM) are driven for alignment of
paper after the stapling tray paper sensor detects paper.
