2.  Overview 

2.1. Modes in Wireless LAN 

Two connection methods are available for the  wireless  LAN:  Infrastructure Mode  and  Ad-hoc Mode. In 
Infrastructure Mode, two client devices communicate with each other via an access point. In Ad-hoc Mode, two 
client devices communicate with each other directly without using an access point; a mobile device and an MFP 
communicate with each other directly to print to and scan from the MFP. 
 

This mode allows for wireless communication between two client devices via a host (access point). Here, an 
MFP connects to an access point to obtain an IP address.

This mode allows for direct wireless communication between two client devices. Here, a mobile device connects 
to an  MFP  to obtain an IP  address. 

■

The direct wireless communication allows a mobile device that cannot 

connect to an intranet to print to and scan from an MFP.
