AR-350/450 BASIC SCANNER SECTION 8-3
a. CCD/Lens unit
The reduction optical type CCD (Charge Coupled Device) of 7,500 pixels
is employed. The scan resolution is 600dpi.
Lights reflected from the document are reflected by the mirrors, and
passed through the reduction type lens to form images on the CCD
element. The photo energy is converted into electric energy (analog
signals).
Line CCD scan is performed line by line.
By moving the carriage unit (lamp and mirror) or by moving the
document, the scan position is shifted in order.
b. CIS unit
This is an image sensor unit to scan the back of a document.
An image sensor (CIS: Contact Image Sensor) of 7,196 pixels is
employed. The scan resolution is 600dppi.
This image sensor is independent from the image sensor of the scanner
unit.
It realizes simultaneous scanning of both surfaces of a document.
LED lights in the unit are reflected onto the document. Lights reflected
from the document are passed through the lens to form images on the
photoelectric conversion elements. This photo energy is converted into
electric energy (analog signals). Scanning of CIS is performed line by
line.
By moving the document on the scanning line, the scan position is
shifted in order.
c. Image signal flow
The image signals made by photoelectric conversion in the CCD/CIS unit
are subject to image process of white balance and shading correction by
the CCD/CIS PWB, and passed through the scanner connection PWB to
the scanner control PWB.
The signals are then passed from the scanner control PWB to the MFP
controller, where they are converted into the laser lighting signals and
passed through the motherboard PCU to the LSU (Laser Scanning Unit).
