<Step 1>
1) Execute SIM 44-21 and 46-24 to change the laser ON duty to form
five toner patches of different densities on the OPC drum.
The four points (ID1 – ID4) are determined by the gamma charac-
teristics set with SIM 46-22 (21) and 46-24.
The fifth point is of the max. density (max. laser ON duty).
Scan the patch densities on the transfer belt with the image den-
sity sensor.
2) Draw lines with the four points (ID1 – ID4).
3) Obtain the laser ON duty level (LDS) corresponding to the density
at the cross point between the saturation density level and the
lines in procedure 2)
4) Divide the distance between point ID1 and point LDS by 10.
<Step 2>
1) With point LDS, the point shifted to the lower density by 7 points
from point LDS, and the point shifted to the higher density by 3
points, toner patches with the different laser ON duties and with
different densities are formed on the OPC drum and transferred to
the transfer belt.
Read the patch densities with the image density sensor.
The interval between points is LD/10.
2) Draw lines with points made in step 1 and the point made in this
step.
The relationship between the toner patch density made in the
above procedure and the laser ON duty is stored as the initial
data.
The above data is formed according to the gamma characteristics
set with SIM46-24(21).
That is, the relationship between the laser ON duty set with
SIM46-24(21) and the density is the same as the relationship be-
tween the laser ON duty made in this operation and the toner
patch density.
When SIM 46-24 is executed, the above operation (Step 1, 2) is
performed automatically.
L. User auto color balance adjustment (Auto
gamma setting)
This adjustment is basically same as the method by SIM46-24. How-
ever, the initial setup of half tone image correction is not performed
automatically after completion of the adjustment.
M. Resist roller RPM correction
a. Outline and purpose
The paper transport capability is changed by humidity change. In this
correction, the relative paper transport speed between the transfer
belt and the resist roller is changed to stabilize the paper transport ca-
pability.
b. Details of operation
The resist roller rotating speed is made higher than the transfer speed
to make warp on the paper between the black transfer section and
the resist roller.
Under a higher humidity environment, however,  paper is softened
and a warp on the paper between the black transfer section and the
resist roller may produce wrinkles.
To prevent against this, the resist roller rotating speed is decreased
as the humidity becomes greater, reducing warp.
