VERIFYING EVERYTHING WORKS
To verify that all these pieces are working correctly, and to try to determine where a breakdown
occurs, you may take the following steps:
1.
Unplug the scanner, and plug a PC into the Ethernet cable from the scanner.
2.
Set the PC's IP address to the same as that of the scanner.
3.
Go to "start", then "run", and type in "telnet" and hit enter.
4.
If you are running Windows 2000, skip to Windows 2000 instructions on page 4 here.
5.
When you get the telnet window, go to the "Terminal" menu and select "Terminal
Preferences"

Check the "Local Echo" checkbox, then press OK.
7.
Go to the "Connect" menu and select "Remote System"
8.
Type in the name or IP address of your mail server and set the PORT to 25, then press
"Connect"

HELO <DNS name or hostname of scanner here>
MAIL FROM: <reply-to address set on scanner here>
RCPT TO: <recipient's e-mail address here>
DATA
<Type some sort of message here>
<Put a period on a line by itself here at the end of your message>
