1. Model Name:
AR505
2. General:
We have received a report from the field of the originals jamming when using the RSPF.
Please see below for details.
3. Description:
Problem
When a large number of originals are run continually from the RSPF, they may jam in the
delivery area.
Cause
When a large number of originals are run continually from the RSPF, static accumulates
on the upper guide plate (P/G No.65-21).  The static may leak onto other parts on rare
occasions.
If the static leaks, the driver IC in the transport motor will mis-operate causing the original
to jam in the delivery area.
Please note: this problem is not an epidemic failure but occurs only when a large number
of originals are run continually in machines that are installed in a low humidity
environment, in which static is easily generated.
4. Action:
Factory action
As a temporary measure, an earth wire is added to the upper guide plate to prevent static
accumulating on the upper guide plate.  Please see the diagram below.
The permanent measure will be announced at a later date.

Production cut-in
The temporary measure mentioned above has been implemented in production since
February 1999.
Please fit the part according to the following procedure when the problem occurs.
(1)  Open the jam cover in the RSPF.  Remove screw A.
(2)  Screw up the round-shaped terminal of the earth wire and the upper guide plate
together using the screw A removed in (1).
(3)  Loosen the screw B indicated in the above diagram and fix the U-shaped terminal of
the earth wire.
