UP-X500. With Windows - XP Home, XP Pro and 2000 Pro.
General
The following countermeasure should be implemented to improve the following
phenomenon found in UP-X500's using scanners.
Phenomenon
On the UP-X500, when you operate POS Power Control Utility (provided by Sharp)
and set +5 volts on COM 2 Port to ON, after the shutdown or restart, the +5 volts
has turned OFF.
Remedy
In order to set +5 volts of COM Port 2 for ON in powering on the UP-X500, you can
make the setting by adding POS Power Control Utility to Start Menu and having
POS Power Control Utility automatically executed. Follow the instructions below for
Windows XP (for Pro and Home) and 2000 Pro.
Windows 2000
Create shortcut for POS power control.
1)  From task bar, touch [Start]-[Settings]-[Taskbar and Start Menu] to launch.
2)  When "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog is displayed, select "Advanced" tab.
3)  Press "Add…" button in order to display "Create Shortcut" screen.
4)  Input like in the following example to "Type the location of the item", and press "Next>"
button.
(EXAMPLE)
 "C:\Program Files\POSSYS\UTILITY\pospower.exe" /ON
5)  Choose "Startup" form the inside of the tree of the Start Menu, displayed at "Select a folder to
place this shortcut in", then press "Next>" button.
6)  Input the shortcut name to "Type a name for this shortcut", and press "Finish" button.
7)  The "Cancel" button will end the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog.
Windows XP (Professional and Home)
Create shortcut for POS power control.
1)  From Control Panel run "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" to launch.
2)  When "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog is displayed, select "Classic Start Menu" and
press "Customise." button.
3)  When "Customise Classic Start Menu" dialog is displayed, press "Add…" button in order to
display "Create Shortcut" screen.
4)  Input like in the following example to "Type the location of the item", and press "Next>"
button.
(EXAMPLE)
 "C:\Program Files\POSSYS\UTILITY\pospower.exe" /ON
