Technical Report
1. Model Name
UP-5900.
2. General
The following countermeasure should be implemented to improve
the following symptom found in UP-5900 in the field.

3. Phenomenon
The LED blinks in green, and the main unit will not function
properly. (Hangs up).
The jumper wire connected from the negative terminal of capacitor
C15 on the backside of the main PWB unit had been pressed on the
positive terminal capacitor C15. As a result, the positive terminal of
capacitor C15 contacted the jumper wire by punching through the
insulation of the jumper.
However, the jumper wire has been added in order to strengthen
an anti-static measure for the initial production. If the jumper wire
is not in touch with the positive terminal of capacitor C15, the
reported failure will not occur.

4. Remedy
In case of the failure occurrence, check the jumper wire on the
backside of the main PWB unit is in touch with the positive
terminal of capacitor C15. If it is so, please lift the jumper wire to
avoid the contact.
RECOMMENDATION: - Sharp Electronics (UK) recommend that
this modification be carried out on all UP-5900 delivered prior to
