Troubleshooting chart
Many potential problems can be resolved by the owner without calling a service tech-
nician.
If something is wrong with this product, check the following before calling your autho-
rized SHARP dealer or service center.
General

No sound is heard.
Is the volume level set to "0"?
Are the headphones connected?
Are the speaker wires disconnect-
ed?
Is the speaker size set to NO (OFF)?
The sounds from speakers 
are not well balanced.
Are the speaker cords connected to 
the wrong channels?
Is each speaker placed at the same 
distance from the listener?
Are speakers adjusted to the same 
level?
Noise is heard during play-
back.
Move the unit away from any com-
puters or mobile phones.
When a button is pressed, 
the unit does not respond.
Set this unit to the power stand-by 
mode and then turn it back on. If the 
unit still malfunctions, reset it.
Interference or noise occurs 
on the TV image.
Is the unit placed near TV with inter-
nal antenna? Use an outdoor anten-
na.
Timer playback does not 
start.
Did you remove the plug from the 
wall jack, or did a power failure oc-
cur?
The display on the unit is 
dark.
Hold down the DISPLAY button on
the remote control for 2 seconds or 
more to select "DIMMER OFF".

Is the unit unplugged?
The protection circuit may be acti-
vated. Unplug the unit and plug it in 
again.
The sound is not reproduced 
in the Dolby Digital 5.1 ch.
Is the "Audio setting" on the initial 
setup screen set to "D-PCM"? 
Change it to "BITSTREAM".
No images are displayed.
Is TV turned on?
Is the input of TV switched?
Is the VIDEO OUT SELECTOR 
switched to the connected source?
The sound is not recorded 
with VCR.
Is the sound mode set to "STE-
REO"?

Is the unit placed near the TV or 
computer?
Is the FM antenna or AM loop anten-
na placed properly? Move the AC 
power cord away from the antenna if 
located near.

Is the disc loaded upside down?

Has condensation formed inside the 
unit?
The track number, etc. are 
not displayed when a disc is 
loaded.
Is the input not set to DVD?
The control buttons do not 
function. Music or video play-
back is interrupted.
Is the disc very dirty?
Does the disc satisfy the standards?
Is the unit located near excessive vi-
brations?
Has condensation formed inside the 
unit?
Pictures and sound are 
skipped.
Is the disc very dirty?

The unit does not operate

Clean the optical pickup if it is dirty.
Is the TV input set to "VIDEO 1/VID-
EO 2" etc.?

The remote control does not 
operate properly.
Is the battery polarity respected?
Are the batteries dead?
Is the distance or angle incorrect?
Are there any obstructions in front of 
the unit?
Is the remote control sensor ex-
posed to strong light (inverter fluo-
rescent light, direct sunlight, etc.)?
Is the remote control for another 
equipment used simultaneously?
Are buttons on the front and back
faces of the remote control pressed 
simultaneously?
The unit cannot be turned on 
with the remote control.
Is the AC power cord of the unit 
plugged in?
Are the batteries inserted?
Sudden temperature changes, storage or opera-
tion in an extremely humid environment may 
cause condensation inside the cabinet (laser 
pickup, etc.) or on the transmitter on the remote 
control.
Condensation can cause the unit to malfunction. 
If this happens, leave the power on with no disc 
in the unit until normal playback is possible 
(about 1 hour). Wipe off any condensation on the 
transmitter with a soft cloth before operating the 
unit.
