Subject: Distortion
In early versions of the N26 and N26AW loudspeaker, the crossover network PCB comes in contact with
the threaded metal inserts inside the enclosure. As a result, when an optional wall bracket is used, it may
short out two electrical points on the network. This results in distortion, and possibly the customer's
receiver or power amplifier shutting down due to low impedance.
In the event you receive an N26 or N26AW loudspeaker with the complaint “there’s distortion from
one or both of the loudspeakers, but only when I use a wall bracket”, perform the following
modification:
Disassemble the loudspeaker and add non-conductive washer(s) between the inserts and the network
PCB.
1) Remove the woofer, the dacron filler, and the crossover network.
2) Insert two fiber washers, JBL part# N26WASH, between the rear of the network PCB and the metallic
inserts at the rear of the enclosure.
3) Reassemble the loudspeaker.
