REASON
Change of Delta DC Power Supply Unit part during production.
ACTION
We have changed the Delta DC Power Supply Unit part from April 2014 production.
The DELTA DC Power Supply unit has been modified to fix the failure to light the
backlight due to a crack on the transformer core mounted to the Power Supply unit.
(The parts code will not change.)
backlight due to a crack on the transformer core mounted to the Power Supply unit.
(The parts code will not change.)
Symptom
The core on the transformer for the LED output circuit (T7701 and T7702) mounted to
the DELTA DC Power Supply unit (RDENC1023MPPZ) has been cracked.
Major symptoms are:
(1) Unable to turn on the power.
(2) The screen turns dark after power on and display of logo mark "SHARP".
(3) The screen powers on, but the screen remains dark and nothing appears on the
screen.
(4) A faint image appears on screen after power on.
(5) Sometimes the image disappears from the screen during use.

* The above symptoms may appear due to other defects with the Power Supply unit
(instead of a crack on the transformer core) or problem with connecting section (such
as connector and harness) between PWBs including the Power Supply unit.
(instead of a crack on the transformer core) or problem with connecting section (such
as connector and harness) between PWBs including the Power Supply unit.
* There is another problem due to the defect with the Power Supply unit:
The screen is dark and the device does not respond to the remote control even
though power indicator lights in green.
The device does not respond to the remote control due to the operation failure of 12V
system output rather than the cracked core on the transformer for LED output circuit
(T7701 and T7702).

* The core is cracked near the edge of the transformer core (black area in the centre)
or corner in many cases. It looks like a drawn line because there is almost no
clearance in the crack.
(Please see the photos below for the crack on the transformer core.)

Cause
The parts with different rate of thermal expansion was impregnated together and
attached during the manufacture of transformer for the LED output circuit (T7701 and
T7702) on the Power Supply unit. The stress due to this difference generated crack(s)
on the core.

Countermeasure
The manufacturing process of the transformer (impregnation method of the coil) has
been improved to avoid stress.

How to distinguish old and new Power Supply unit
You can distinguish the Power Supply unit before and after change according to the
black marking and date code on the spec label.
